| An introduction to Mailsort from the Royal Mail | ||
Share the work, cut the cost Each day, Royal Mail collects and delivers nearly 70 million letters and packets across the UK. Much of that is generated by companies who have to produce large volumes of mail as a fundamental part of their business activity. By working closely with our customers to gain a full understanding of their requirements, we've been able to develop new solutions to meet their needs, and offer significant opportunity for cost savings whilst achieving quality performance standards. The result has been the development of our range of Mailsort services. Mailsort is founded on a partnership between ourselves and you, the business customer. Greater economy and efficiency for your mail can be achieved if you are able to share some of the work involved in mail processing normally undertaken by us. By assisting us with the sorting of your mail before it is handed over to Royal Mail, more of it can go directly to the final delivery office, requiring less handling en route. Or you can present it in such a way that our machines are able to sort it automatically, so that there is again less handling on our part. And because you've helped us to employ fewer of our resources, we are able to offer you considerable savings on your mailing costs in return. From the Royal Mail "Introducing Mailsort" Guide. There are three service standards for Mailsort: Mailsort 1 For letters and packets targeted for delivery the next working day after the day of posting. Mailsort 2 For letters and packets targeted for delivery within three working days after the day of posting. Mailsort 3 For letters and packets targeted for delivery within seven working days after the day of posting. How much can you save? Mailsort 1 could save you up to 18% off the First Class tariffs, and Mailsort 2 up to 16% off Second Class tariffs. With Mailsort 3, discounts range from 15% up to 36%. The chief characteristics of Mailsort are it's ease of use, and it's flexibility. The Royal Mail system of straight-line pricing means that for items over 60 grams you only ever pay for what you send per gram, and no more.
